Congratulations to Tyrone McIvor and Dalbinder Sanghera who have won their chance to run in the Dementia UK 100m race lanes in the Gold Challenge Stadium Event on 1st April 2012.
Tyrone, completed the 201.2km challenge with his wife during summer 2011. As a team, the McIvor’s raised a total of £692.50 (inc Gift Aid); that’s £346.25 each. Being a top fundraiser and the first people to complete the Gold Challenge for Dementia UK, it made it an easy choice for us to invite Tyrone to take part in this unique opportunity.
After having completed her original distance of 201.2km, Dalbinder decided to take her Gold Challenge to the next level and cover the full distance of 2012km. Although she is not our highest fundraiser, Dalbinder is taking on the 2012km challenge whilst also being a carer for her mother. We’re pleased to offer our second race lane to Dalbinder, who has started out on an amazing journey to raise, not only funds, but also to raise awareness of the work of Dementia UK and family carers.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both Tyrone and Dalbinder to be some of the first people in the world to run 100m on the London 2012 Olympic Stadium track. Well done!

This is my fantastic husband, Tyrone and I. We are taking part in the 201.2km Gold Challenge and are aiming to run this over a 6 week period.
Any charity that works to support people with dementia always has our strongest support. I work as a Clinical Psychologist in the North Manchester Later Life Community Mental Health Team and Memory Clinic. This means that I spend a great deal of time working with people with dementia and their carers. I am strongly committed, along with the other members of the team, to helping people live well with dementia. I see everyday how the right support can help people maintain their quality of life in the face of this very difficult illness. I also see how carers can only maintain their role if they also look after themselves, however support is needed to achieve this.
Dementia UK is a very worthy charity who works to provide support for people whose lives are touched by this condition and this helps me to maintain my focus on completing our Gold Challenge.
On a personal level, Tyrone and myself got married around 4 months ago. We frequently went running before the wedding, with our beautiful sausage dog Bella, to shift a few of those last stubborn Ibs.!! Doing this challenge is an excellent way of keeping that motivation going. It also helps us to spend time together and work off the stress of the day. We are currently around 75% of the way through our challenge and are hoping to raise £350.00 (or more). Keep an eye out for us in the South Manchester area!!
